Sure, whipping up a salad or defrosting some soup from the freezer is always an option, but sometimes you crave something cool and refreshing, something that tantalizes your taste buds and fills you with satisfaction, all while being quick and healthy.

That's when it hits you: Teri Sewell, Culinary Nutrition Expert, is an expert at smoothies and juicing.  I can easily visit her website wellness for inspiration, text her or join her mailing list.  Besides Teri is a plant-based nutrition kitchen coach and is also a passionate foodie. (Note:  More recipes coming soon).

And speaking of smoothies, here's one of my personal favorites:

Recipe:  Creamy Cocoa-Berry Bliss Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 ripe banana, frozen

1 cup mixed berries (such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries), frozen

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

1 tablespoon almond butter

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any plant-based milk of choice)

1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar (optional, for added sweetness)

A handful of spinach (optional, for extra greens)

Instructions:

Prepare the Ingredients: If your banana and berries aren't already frozen, you can freeze them in advance or use fresh and add some ice cubes to the blender for a colder smoothie.

Blend: In a blender, combine the frozen banana, mixed berries, cocoa powder, almond butter, almond milk, and optional sweetener and spinach, if using.

Blend Until Smooth: Blend all the ingredients until smooth and creamy. If the consistency is too thick, you can add more almond milk, a little at a time, until you reach your desired thickness.

Taste and Adjust: Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness if needed by adding more maple syrup or agave nectar.

Serve and Enjoy: Pour the smoothie into glasses and enjoy immediately. You can also garnish with additional berries or a sprinkle of cocoa powder if desired.

This smoothie is packed with plant-based goodness, from the antioxidants in the berries to the potassium in the banana and the healthy fats in the almond butter. It's a delightful treat that's perfect for any time of day, whether as a quick breakfast, a refreshing snack, or a post-workout refuel. Plus, its chocolatey flavor makes it an indulgent yet guilt-free option that black women and anyone else will surely appreciate!
