Let’s Take This Walk, Sis: How Movement Became My Midlife Medicine

 


Sis… I’m going to be real with you.

I didn’t wake up one day with everything figured out.  This wellness life I talk about?
I grew into it.

Because there was a time when I was doing a lot…
working, building, showing up for everybody…
and still not feeling my best.

And I had to stop and ask myself, Teri… when do you show up for you?

That question right there?  It changed the direction of my life.


It Started Simple… With a Walk

I didn’t start with a big plan.  No gym. No pressure.  I just started walking.

Sometimes early in the morning.  Sometimes in the evening.  Sometimes, just to clear my head after a long day.

And let me tell you, those walks became mine.

That was my time to think. It’s my time to breathe, my time to pray, reset, and get myself together.

And the more I walked, the more I realized this wasn’t just exercise.

This was healing.


Midlife Will Wake You Up

There’s something about this season of life.

You start paying attention differently. Your energy matters more.  Your peace matters more.
Your health? Non-negotiable.

I had to be honest with myself.  I didn’t want to just get through the day.  I wanted to feel good in my life.  And walking gave me a way back to myself.


But I Knew It Wasn’t Just the Walk

Now listen…
I’m a Culinary Nutrition Coach.  I know food matters.

So, I couldn’t be out here walking, doing my thing, and then go back home to a kitchen that wasn’t supporting me.

That’s when I started shifting how I eat.  I began building a plant-based kitchen one decision at a time.

More whole foods.  More meals that energize me.  More intention in what I put on my plate.

Not perfect.  But consistent.

Because I wanted my lifestyle to match the way I said I wanted to live.


This Is My Real Life Now

These days?

Walking is part of who I am.  It’s how I stay grounded.  It’s how I stay clear.  It’s how I stay connected—to myself and to God.

And my kitchen?
It reflects that same care.

This isn’t about doing the most.  It’s about doing what matters.

Taking care of myself in a way that feels good… and lasts.


Sis, You Can Start Right Where You Are

You don’t need to overhaul your whole life overnight.

Start where you are.

Take a walk.
Look at what’s in your kitchen.
Make one better choice.

Then do it again tomorrow.

That’s how this works.
